Weather Forecast For Search Today Is Unpromising

OHAKUNE. Last Night (Staff Reporter).—Shortly after midnight rain was beginning to fall in Ohakune and a strong westerly wind was indicative of boisterous conditions. Rain was falling in the mountain area, and there was a fear that a further fall of snow would occur. Conditions for continuance of the search in the morning are most unpromising. The general opinion was that weather was likely to deteriorate lurther by morning, and the ground party which had reached the Cascade Falls area would be unable to continue farther. Probably the hardest worked official is Constable Phillips, of Raurimu, who is on continuous duty in the watchhouse at Ohakune. Throughout the day he has been obliged to handle calls from all over the North Island, anti at a late hour tonight was still making arrangements for the next day’s search.
