Problems In The South Pacific
CHANGE TO EXAMINE THE WORK OF THE COMMISSION
SYDNEY, Oct. 29 (Rec. 8 p.m.)— The South Pacific Conference agreed today to call a conference in 1950 of people not specifically represented on the commission, to be held in Suva. This conference will give delegates from 15 territories within the area of the Commission an opportunity to express views about the Commission’s work.
Today the Commission examined a works programme, which includes mechanisation of the copra industry, improving the supply of essential goods to the South Pacific, and a study of health problems, and food production in the South Pacific. When appointed full-time members of the Commission’s research council will visit administrative centres of the South Pacific to discuss research needs with local authorities. Representatives of the Commission will attend the Pacific Science Congress in New Zealand next February as observers.
