Russian Whaling Fleet Sails For Antarctica

WASHINGTON, Oct. 28 (Recd. 9.10 pm).—A Russian whaling fleet of 13 vessels sailed from Odessa this month for Antarctica for scientific research, and to kill 2500 whales, said Moscow radio monitored in Washington. American officials report Norway is sending nine factory ships and scores of small “catcher’’ boats to Japan, Britain, the Netherlands and South Africa, and is also sending ships when the season opens on December 12. The catch is expected to total 25,000 whales, which is the limit set by international agreement. Argentina proposes to enter whaling later. She ordered a 20,000-ton factory ship from Britain, to he fitted with aircraft.
