Britain Must Keep Her Rate Of Production

LONDON, Oct. 29 (Rec. 6 pm).— The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir Stafford Cripps) said in a broadcast that he was disturbed at the lag in the production increase.

“Over the past two years production has gone up well and in June it was nearly one-quarter up on 1946, but this was largely because we had more and more people at work — more than 19,000,000 compared with less than 17,500,000 two years earlier. Unless we all co-operate in improving production methods the only way out will be longer hours or. what is unthinkable—failure to regain our economic independence.”
