Complex Matter Cannot Be Dealt With This Session, Says Mr. Nash
PARLIAMENT BLDGS., Last Ni C ht. (OC).—The deputation was given what could be interpreted as a “sympathetic ’ hearing by Mr. Nash.
He said the Government appreciated the difficulties which faced both parties in connection with the leases, but at so late a stage in the session there would not be time to go into all the factors involved. He would, however, hold discussions with the Under-Secretary of the Maori Affairs Denar!ment (Mr. T. T. Ropiha) and see what could be done. Mr. Nash told the deputation that he agreed it was a comnlex matte’’ and the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) had discussed it with him the day before he left New Zealand. No promise was made that, a Bova’ Commission would be set up to investigate the leases.
