Friends School Athletic Sports
Postponed for the first time in the history of the school, the New Zealand Friends School’s athletic sports were held on Wednesday. During the day four records were broken or equalled. T. Sullivan was senior boy champion and J. Bowman runner-up. Rosamond Lilburn was senior girl champion and Mary Moffit runner-up. N. Bryant won the junior boy’s title with M. Reid runner-up. June Davey won the iunior girls championship, with Jenny Dudley runner-up. The canoe championship was won by Tainui. Results were as follows: BOYS’ CHAMPIONSHIPS. 400 metres: T. Sullivan 1, J. Bowman 2; time, 71.2 sec. 200 metres: T. Sullivan 1, J. Mills 2; time, Jlsec. 100 metres: T. Sullivan 1, J. Mills 2; time 14.6 sec. Long jump: T. Bowman 1, T. Sullivan 2; distance, 4.24 metres. High jump: T. Sullivan 1, R. Hatch 2; height, 1.31 metres. GIRLS’ CHAMPIONSHIPS. A 400 metres: Rosamund Lilburn 1. Mary Mollit 2; time, 70.8 sec. 200 metres: Rosamund Lilburn 1, June Pearce and Mary Moffit equal 2; time, 30.6 sec.—equals record. 100 metres: R. Lilburn 1, J. Pearce 2; time. 14sec. Long jump: R. Lilburn 1, M. Moffitt 2; distance, 4.19 metres. High jump: M. Moffiitt 1; height, 1.16 metres. JUNIOR BOYS’ CUP. 400 metres: N. Bryant 1, M. Reid 2; time, 70sec. 200 metres: N. Bryant 1, M. Reid 2; time, 31.8 sec.—a record. 100 metres: N. Bryant 1, M. Reid 2; time, 14.4 sec. Long jump:M. Reid 1, R. Hill 2; height, 1.10 metres. JUNIOR GIRLS TROPHY. 400 metres: J. Davey 1. J. Mackintosh 2; time, 80.4 sec. 200 metres: P. Davey 1, J. Dudley 2; time, 33sec.— equals record. 100 metres: J. Davey 1, J. Dudley 2; time, 15.5 sec. Long jump: J. Davey 1, M. Manley 2; d stance, 3.27 metres, high jump: J. Davey 1, Heather Birch 2; height, 1.00 metres.
