Vendors Meet Market At Feilding Sale

PALMERSTON N., Last Night (PA) —There was not a large attendance at the Feilding stock sale when a large entry of station cattle came forward, and other departments were represented by relatively small entries. The return to fine, warm weather found most farmers busy on shearing, and this accounted for the relatively small gathering. Offerings of 2th. wethers found buyers unable to concede vendors’ reserves, but in the ewe hoggets, of which there were several quality pens, the tone was decidely firmer, top price being 56s 6d. Hogget and wether mutton values remained steady, but ewe mutton was cheaper.

In keeping with the steadily improved cat tie feed position station cattle were mostly in better order but trading was not by any means brisk although where vendors met the market business was done at values in keen ng with late qoutations. The dairy cattle inquiry was very attractive. No station beef was offered.

An appreciable change in the fat sheep market was the easing tendency for ewe mutton. The yardjng was small, round about 500 head oeing offered. Shorn wethers and hoggets were traded at. 48s lOd for the tops, while best price for ewes was 37s lOd. Although some early pens of shorn 2th. wethers failed to inspire bidding to vendors’ reserves, the tone improved steadily as better-conditioned sheep were offered. Buyers had a choice of some attractive ewe hoggets in the wool, and strong competition followed, prices for the best ranging from 50s to 56s 6d. Woolly wether hoggets made from 39s lOd to 41s 9d, and the quality was only medium.. Two-tooth wethers sold, from 32s Id to 37s lOd. and ewes with lambs at foot from 26s 3d to 27s 7d. Most of the business done in lhe station erttie section related to 3yr. steers The market was hardly as bright as the changed weather conditions promised. Most ol the cattle were in better order, aVhough still reflecting something of the hard feed conditions. Where vendors met the market business was on a satisfactory basis. The first line disposed of was a pen of 72 A.A. and 3yr. steers, which sold at £l4 6s and £l4 3s. Other sales of 3yr. cattle were £l4 15s and £l4 10s. Young heifers were featured in the dairy section, where interest was quite strong, and mature animals showed improvement in thn quality. Heifers in milk made £IC to £l5 ss, snr heifers £8 10s to 23gns. for a pedigree beast. Springing cows sold from £8 to £l7 ss. yearling heifers £lO 2s 6d, and two-year heifers £7 15s to £9 10s.
