Rangitikei Horses Gallop At Awapuni

PALMERSTON N., Last Night (Special).—Awapuni stables will provide some 30 of the contestants at the Rangitikei Racing Club’s spring meeting at Bulls on Saturday, and for this reason the final gatops this morning attracted a good deal of interest. The going was goodOne of the outstanding gallops was that of Ngakoti (W. L. Aitken) and Imperial (G. R. Tattersail) over seven fur.ongs from the barrier. With Imperial on the inner they began smoothly and ran the three furlongs from the six to the three in 38 3-5 and were home nicely in 42 to complete in 1.35 3-5. Imperial was about a head to the good at the post, but the winner of the Waverley Cup was ! iravel.ing very comfortably at the finish. Four Awapuni norses are accepted for the Rangitikei Cup, the otners being Playtos, Landfire and Noble Knight, yesterday Landfire (J. Heiy) went pleasingly in a mile gaLop with Voltaic (J. Harris). From the seven, over more ground than Ngakoti and Imperial covered, they were Home in 1.39 1-5, the last three in 41 3-5. Landfire looks we.l and she should run well tomorrow. One of the best fives of the morning was that of Royal Shar (V- J. Sellars) and Sonia (D. Harris). They ran the distance in 1.7 2-5 and were going nicely at the finish after covering the last three in 40 4-5. Yasda (Tattersail) and Gratuity (D. | Harris) broke 43 for the last three of j a satisfactory work-out over seven in I 1.39 2-5. ’ Estherbeli (D. Coombe) and Lord Bradbury (Tattersail) were not re- I qulred to better 15 to the furlong over seven. Coombe, who rode Coral Arc to victory in the Wellington Handicap, will ride Lord Bradbury, Esther- | bell and Clever Boy at Bulls tomor- ■ row. ’ i Übbriaco (K. L. Holman) worked well over half a mile in 55, time which was later recorded by Perdita (Aitken) a head in front of Aurora’s , Song (N. Cavaney). Deseado (Wood) and Audacious j were timed to run five furlongs in ; 1.8 3-5- The going at Bull? should be i more to the liking of Deseado. K. L. Holman, who has been in , Auckland since his arrival from Aus- 1 tralia two years ago, is going to live in Pa merston North. He rode Tight Line in the Steeplechase at Awapuni in June. He was riding work this morning and will be able to ride at about 7.7. When the barrier went up for the start of the Pearce Handicap at Tren- i tham on Saturday a horse got caught . up in it. As Demonic went, past, the | tape was dragged across W. J. 1 Broughtons face and neck, inflicting a very painful burn. Lady Oratory (A. G. WaM’ID sprinted three furlongs in 42, and Batt'e Strife (S. Waddell) and Giggle (Cavaney) were a shade faster. Voltage (T. Poad) and Fox Flame (Aitken) worked splendidly over six furlongs, which they ran in 1.22 G-y Stitches (TottersaV) and Robert Emmett (Aitken) sprinted four in 53 1-5.
