RAETIHI, Last Night (OC).—The town clerk at Taumarunui recently wrote to the Raetihi Borough Council asking tor an opmion on tne suggested revival ot tne Central anu southern King Country Licensing Committee. The Mayor of Taumarunui (Mr. DH. Ha.l) nad said taut as most ot tne old members ot the committee were either away from the area or no longer connected wnn me bodies tney represented, .ocal bodies in tne proclaimed area, along with tile Chambers of Commerce and Ministers’ Association, should be asked to appoint representatives to comer in the near luture.

One council.or expressed the view that there was no need to appoint a representative as all lhe evidence had been tabled by lhe commission and had been seen by the officials in Wellington. He considered the matter should be deferred until legislation was brought down. 'lhe Mayor (Mr. A. E. Urwin) considered it advisable lo re-establish the committee. It no action was taken until the Bill was tabled, it mignt be difficult to get any alteration, it was desirable tnat a fully co-operative attitude be developed, and he thought the Government would welcome the further opinion of loca. bodies.

Other members concurred with the latter view, and the Mayor was appointed to represent the council at the conference.
