“Four search parties were (.•it at Kopaki and had returned, the search being fruitless. An area officer called on Senior-Sergeant Taylor at Taumarunui and reported that the postmaster at Kawhia had definitely identified a passenger plane at about 2.30 p.m. or 3 p.m. on Saturday. Sixteen planes are going out over Waitomo tomorrow. G round search parties are going to that, area also.”

Another police message reported that the search of bush country in the Ongarue and Waimaiha districts had proved fruitless and said it had now been established that the ill-fated plane crashed north of that area. Hamilton police and bushmen are searching the country below Te Kuiti. It is now surmised the plane may have gone down in the sea out from Kawhia.
