Auckland Sailor Collects Rich Prize
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct 8 (Rccd 8.5 pm).—Roy Reid, aged 41, a seaman from Auckland, arrived today and collected 30,000 dollars which he won in a raffle drawn while he was on the high seas. He bought the ticket on a previous visit to San Francisco. The prize was a furnished house whch Reid turned down, instructing the bank to sell it for cash and hold the money until his return. Reid said he had no intention of settling down or giving up seagoing. His only worry was that lhe authorities might take a big “bite” in taxation, but bank officials believe the winnings are not taxable as Reid Is only transient.
