Mr. E. Haydon, Cambridge, vicepresident of the Kindred Clubs’ Association of .New Zealand, visited Wanganui at the week-end and was a guest at the Savage Club’s end-of-the-season function, ladies' night. Messrs John McFarlane, H. C. Price and J. R. Foster, three former presidents of the Wanganui Bowling Club who died during the year, were Aererred to by Mr. Orren Hales, president of the club at the opening of the season on Saturday afternoon. As a mark of respect to their memory a brief silence was observed. The appointments ol Sir David Smith, Chancellor of ti»e University 01 New Zealand, Major-General Sir Howard Kippenberger, editor-in-chiei of the New Zealand War Histories and Mr. F. R. Callaghan, secretary of the Department oi Scientific and Industrial Research, as New Zealand directors of the Board of the United States Educational Foundation in New Zealand, is announced by the American Minister, Mr. Robert M. Scotten. The appointments have been made in accordance with an agreement between the United States and the New Zealand Governments for the use of funds made available with lend-lease settlement and were announced by the American Minister after consultation with the New Zealand Government. — (PA).
