LARGE NUMBER OF FORMER PUPILS ATTEND CONVENT REUNION

More than 200 former pupils of the Sacred Heart Convent, St. John’s Hill, attended the triennial reunion held at the week-end. On Saturday night Miss V. Ruscoe, retiring president of the local association, presided at a dinner held at Foster’s Hotel, and welcomed the visitors.

The toasts to the “alma mater" and the association were proposed by Miss E. Howard and Miss B. Clark, the replies being given b.V Mrs. P. Dewson and Mrs. A. Woodward. On Sunday afternoon the election of a committee of ten was he'd at. the Convent on St. John’s Hill, those elected being Mrs A. Kitchen (secretary), Miss L. Clark (treasurer), Mrs. P. Cleevcg Mrs. P. Dewson, Miss M. Rogers. Miss C. Greener (ail reelected), Miss E. Roache, Mesdames E. Morris, J. Wright and F. Waters. The president and two committee members, Misses K. Morgan and C. Conway, did not . seek re-election. A committee meeting On July 14 will elect the new president.

Later, old girls of the Convent were welcomed by Miss Ruscoe at an “at home” following the meeting. The Reverend Mother also welcomed the gathering and referred to the work of the association in establishing two scholarships, one of which, the Old Girls’ Scholarship, has been awarded for the past 11 vears. For the other, the Mother Xavier Scholarship, £lOOO had al readv been raised to ward the goal of £2OOO. A small gift was later handed to the Reverend Mother as a donation from the gathering to the scholarship. Two members who were among the first pupils enrolled at the Convent when it was opened in 1880 were present at the reunion.
