SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. Hugh Anderson, of Christchurch, spent the week-end in Wanganui, and leaves today for a short visit to Hastings.

Miss A. McCarthy has returned to Wanganui after spending several weeks in Dunedin.

A young Wellington dancer, Miss Doreen Brown, has been selected by Madame Rambert to join her ballet under permanent contract. Miss Brown was recently awarded the Solo Seal by Miss Ruth French, examiner for the Royal Academy, London. Miss L. Clark was hostess to some 20 members of the Sacred Heart Convent Old Girls’ Association at a supper party at her home in Liverpool Street on Saturday night, following the reunion dinner at Foster's Hotel. Miss N. P. Fitzgibbon will leave New Zealand soon for London to represent the Registered Nurses' Association at a meeting of the Board of Directors of the International Council of Nurses, to be held in September.

Mrs. C. E. Beeby, Wellington, accompanied by her son, will leave New Zealand by the Port Napier to join her husband, Dr. Beeby (Director of Education), who is serving with U.N.E.S.C.O. in France. Her son will go to school in England. Among Wanganui and district folk who visited Waverley to attend the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club point-to-point steeplechase at the week-end were Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Vaughan, Mrs. R. Hatrick and Miss Hatrick, Mr and Mrs. H. B. Knight, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Brewer, Mr. and Mrs. K. Duncan (Marton), Mr. and Mrs. A. Macnab. Mr. and Mrs. E. Mesdames Chapman and Walpole were hostesses at another 500 afternoon held in the Scouts* Hall on Thursday afternoon to assist the funds of the Wanganui East Croquet Club. The winner was Mrs. Bartlett, with the consolation to Mrs. Harris and the mystery to Mrs. Gray. Combined Ball. The colours of four schools formed the decorations for the combined annual ball of past pupils of Nga Tawa and Woodford House Girls' Schools, and Wanganui Collegiate School and Christ’s College, held at Auckland last Thursday. The many guests were received by Mrs. Vernon Brown, president of the Woodford House Old Girls’ Association; Miss Mona Blair (Nga Tawa); Major-General P. H. Bell (Wanganui Collegiate School), and Mr. Neil Ballantyne (Christ's College).

Student Nurses’ Conference. Delegates from all parts of New Zealand will attend the fifth annual conference of the New Zealand Student Nurses' Association to be held at the Christchurch Public Hospital tomorrow and Thursday. The conference will open with a service in the hospital chapel conducted by Canon Williams. Addresses will be given by Miss N. P. Fitzgibbon, M.8.E., Dominion president of the Registered Nurses’ Association, the Dominion president of the Student Nurses’ Association, Miss M. Goldney, and the Director of Nursing, Miss I. Lambie.

Committee Member Farewelled. Mrs. J. E. Hamilton, a committee member of the Wanganui Navy League Food-for-Britain Committee, who is leaving shortly for Invercargill, was farewelled by committee members at an afternoon party held at the home of the president, Mrs. A. R. Gower, on Friday. Also present were representatives of organisations which have made a major contribution to the food-saving campaign. The guest of honour received a gift of flowers from the committee.

Visit to Westport, U.S.A. by Miss N.Z. Miss Nola Luxford has written to the Mayor of Westport (Mr. J. M. Robertson) advising that she has arranged for "Miss New Zealand” (Miss Mary Wootton) to visit Westport, Connecticut, America, during her visit to America in August. At Miss Luxford’s suggestion, Mr. Robertson has forwarded a message from the people of Westport. New Zealand, to those of the American town of that name, and it will be presented by Miss Wootton at a ceremony to be arranged during her visit.
