VICE-REGAL. The Governor-General and Lady Freyberg will leave by flying-boat this morning for Suva to join H.M.N.Z S, Bellona on a visit to the Pacific Islands. They will be accompanied by Miss Rosemary Eley, Major the Hon. Neville Wigram, M.C., Lt. D. Loram, R.N., and Flight Lieutenant M. Cole, D.F.C. After visiting 13 Island communities in 20 days, the party will return to Fiji on 22 to fly back to Auckland. The ijeliona left Auckland on June 17 and Is now at Suva. The Vice-Regal party will be the guests of Sir Brian end Lady Freeston at Fiji until they join the Bellona on Friday. The Chief Justice, Sir Humphrey O'Leary, will act as d'eputy-Governor-General during Sir Bernard Freyberg's absence from New Zealand. Mr. Justice Cornish is expected at Wanganui today from Wellington. He will resume the hearing of a case in the Supreme Court which was part heard when the May sessions were adjourned.

Brigadier H. Goffin, national secretary of the Salvation Army Bands Association who has been visiting Wanganui for the 64th. anniversarycelebrations of the city corps returned to Wellington yesterday. The Rev- F. A. Keay, of Wellington, has been appointed priest-in-charge of All Saints’ Anglican Church, Wanganui East. Mr. Keay, who was ordained in Australia is expected to take up his new appointment at an early date.

Mr. J. C. Cardwell, of the letterpress staff of the “Auckland Star" has retired after 20 years' service with that paper. Coming from Scotland more than 30 years ago. he was employed by the “Timaru Herald,” “Wanganui Chronicle’’ and “Hawera Star.”

Mr. Rex C. Abernethy, who. for the past 10 years, has been stipendiary magistrate at Invercargill, has been transferred to Christchurch. This was announced bv the Minister of Justice (Mr. Mason) yesterday. Mr. Abernethy will fill the vacancy caused through the recent death of Mr. HP. Lawry, S.M. The vacancy at Invercargill will be filled by Mr. A, Harlow, S.M., who, since his recent appointment to the Bench, has been relieving in the Wellington Court.
