Group Or School Vegetable Shows Are Recommended

That district or school shows for various classes of root vegetable crops be instituted to follow the annual judging of pupils’ competition plots, was recommended by the president of the Wanganui-Main Trunk Division of Girls’ and Boys’ Clubs (Mr. K. Humphreys, Wangaehu) at the annual meeting of delegate on Saturday. “They would give residents a much better idea of the school clubs’ work in root crops,” he said. The secretary (Mr. E. H. Lange) said that a group or school show should pay its own way. After a delegate had pointed out that if group shows were to become an established fact the question of certificates and judging would be raised. Mr. Fairbrother outlined the successful organisation of group shows in Canterbury where he had been instrumental in propagating the idea. “They were popular and well supported there,” he saidOn the motion of Mr. Lange, it was decided to incorporate the following in the circular to schools: “That delegates to this annual meeting recommend that a group show or school show be held after the conclusion of the season’s judging in root vegetable plots.”
