Wanganui East Bowling Club Holds Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the Wanganui East Bowling ciub was held in the Pavilion on Thursday evening, when Mr. W. J. McKernan presided for the opening proceedings. As Mr. McKernan did not otter nimselt for re-election his place was taken by Mr. G. P. Hawkins, who presided lor the remainder ot the meeting. Many questions ot a debatable nature were brought forward and this involved a very late sitting. 1 tie report and balance-sheet were adopted. An excess of income over expenditure was shown as £3l. Members' subscriptions were passed at £4, with a rebate of 10s on completion of lour hours work to the club. The club will take part in all Centre fixtures- Club lours are to be played on the I’orisonby system. A vote of thanks and appreciation was passed to Mr. McKernan, retiring president. General regret was expressed at the absence from the meeting of Mr. W. Raine, the club’s champion singles player, who is at present an inmate of the Wanganui Hospital. It was decided that it a player is representing the club in any competition that he be given credit of a win in club fours if they are being played at the same time. \ A committee, consisting of Messrs. Haworth, Bell, Gould, McKernan, Hawkins was set up to go into ways and means of laying down a second green and to report to a general meeting later. The membership was fixed as 95. The following new members were elected: Messrs. J- Fitzgerald, W. Spicer, C. Simonson, H. Gibbons G. Carline, K. Rivers. T. Graham, A. McDonald, J. Robson, J. Verry, F. Holloway, G. E- Sutherland. There is also a waiting list and tnose on it will be taken in as opportunity offers. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr. A. W- Jones; president, Mr. G. P- Hawkins; vice-presi-dent. Mr. C. Haworth; secretary, Mr. D. Taylor; treasurer, Mr. D- Loader; auditor. Mr- F. A. Barclay; committee, Messrs. F. Armstrong, L. Gould, F. Webby, J. A. Juil, F. MrKessar, J. Brandon, R. J. Bell, W. JMcKernan; selectors, F. Armstrong, F. McKessar, C. Haworth; delegates, G. P. Hawkins, D. Taylor. R. J- Bell; green superintendent, A. Gray. Mr. T. Bamber who has occupied the position as green keeper for the past 20 years, retiring because of ill-health. The committee will make a new appointment.
