Turakina Branch.— The May meeting of the Turakina branch of the W.D.F.F. was held in St. Andrew’s Hall. In the absence of the president, who was attending the provincial meeting, Mrs. A. Perry took the chair. The remits for conference were read and discussed. It was proposed that members be asked to bring ideas for the raising of funds to the next meeting which will be held in the hall on the fourth Thursday of this month. A demonstration on the making of cellophane hats and bags has been arranged.

Westbourne.— Mrs Honeyman presided over an excellent attendance at the seventh birthday of the Westbourne Women’s Institute. Mrs. Vinton was given a welcome after being away eight months on account of illness. Mrs. Stilborn was thanked for making and icing the birthday cake. The lucky chair was won by little Gloria Davis. Mrs. Uttley, a foundation member, spoke on the progress of the institute. A playette by Mrs. Cameron, Mrs. Stilborn, Mrs. Roche and Miss Cameron was very enjoyable. Mrs. Palmer sang a bracket of songs, which were much appreciated. Tea was served and Mrs. Tipper, federation president, lit the candles, Mrs Honeyman blew them out and Mrs. Stilborn and Mrs Uttley cut the cake. Competitions: Best bloom, Mrs. Wadham 1, Mrs. Ogier 2, Mrs. Honeyman 3; marmalade, Mrs. R. D. Stewart 1, Mrs. Stilborn 2, Mrs. Ogier 3; guest towel, Mrs. Prowse 1, Mrs. Stilborn 2, Mrs. R. D. Rata-Putorino.— The June meeting of the Rata Putorino branch of the W.D.F.F. was recently held in the Memorial Hall. Mrs. Harvey presided over a fair attendance. Apologies were received from Mesdames A. Rhodes, D. Smith, W. Leask, R. Pickford and E. Pickford. There was a discussion on the borthday party held in May. Members all agreed that they were greatly impressed and encouraged by Mrs. Elliott’s charm and ability as a speaker. A report on the provincial meeting was read and the provincial balance-sheet was passed round. It was agreed to send 15s towards the cost of a new Electrolux for “Kianga Moe,” the Rest Home in Palmerston North. Mrs Harvey read Mrs. Gordon’s report to conference on the work of the Standards Institute. Members were reminded that annual subscriptions are now due, also subscriptions for the “Country Woman." A letter from Mrs. P. Rhodes in hospital was read, expressing thanks for flowers and birthday cake. Members agreed to send a present to Miss Shirley Scott-Maundreil, who was recently married. Mrs. Harvey then read a very interesting article on the world conference of Associated Women of the World, held in Amsterdam in 1947. Afternoon tea and chat brought a very interesting meeting to a close.
