APPROPRIATE KNIGHTHOOD. Not only is the Knighthood of Major-General Kippenberger justified by his service, but it was all the more appropriate that news of it should con#e to New Zealand when he was In Wanganui, a guest of the Wanganui R.S.A. The toast last night wtt “Kip,” TARAWERA. We don’t worry much about; superstition, or coincidence, but we are willing to bet that our Aunt Matilda will see a whole Jot in the fact that the anniversary of the eruption of Mt. Tarawera and the death of that great Liberal leader, Rt. Hon. R. J. Seddon, coincide. THE BATTLE EVE. We are on the eve of battle. We suppose most of us will be sitting over cold, cold ashes of a morning now to hear the last over of the day in the battle for “The Ashes” at Nottingham. It sort of grips you once you start—“just one more over, Mum,” and so you sta y up until the cold grey light of dawn, and curse the man who invented cricket and more still the chaps i who created “'The Ashes.”
