New Minister Inducted At St. James Wanganui E
St. James’ Presbyterian Church, Wanganui East, was crowded lasi night for the induction of the Rev. A S. Archibald, M.A., of Aberdeen,, who recently arrived in the Dominion from Scotland. The Moderator of the Presbytery (the Rev. A. M. Ferguson, M.A) of Feilding, presided. The occasional sermon was preached by the Rev. M. N. Dickey, Gonville, and the charge to the new minister and the congregation was given by the Rev. W. J. Couling, of St. Andrew’s, Wanganui. The narrative was read by the Rev. T. A. Speer, of Fordell, interim-moderator of St. James, during the vacancy. “You have come into a parish that has been waiting for you ana needs you,” said the Rev. Couling, addressing the new minister. The speaker said the Rev. Archibald would find the Parishioners of St James warm and friendly, like the people he had left in Scotland. St. James’ Church had been without a minister for a long period, and that night was a welcome one for the congregation. Mr. Couling wished Mr. Archibald a fruitful and successful ministry while in Wanganui. At a social held following the induction. the new minister was welcomed by Mr. G. Humphrey, on behalf of the congregation. Miss Bartrum, for the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union, Miss Sutherland for the Ladies’ Guijd, the Rev. A. Ferguson, for the Presbytery, the Rev. N. Wood for the Wanganui Ministers’ Association, the Rev. Wyness for the Wanganui East Baptist Church, Envoy Humphrey, for* the Salvation Army, and the Rev. Mclntyre, of Aramohc.
The Rev. Archibald in reply, expressed the deep appreciation of himself and Mrs. Archibald for the warm and sincere welcome given them. It would be his aim to co-operate with the congregation in advancing the work of the church in his sphere of activity.
