Large Gathering At Funeral Of Late Mr. W. Hipango
Maoris from Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, Taupo, the King Country and Wanganui River districts attended the tangi and funeral this week of Mr. Walter Hipango. Mr Hipango was a prominent Wanganui Maori and the funeral was held at the family burial ground, Aramoho Pa.
He was an enthusiastic worker for the Maori War effort and a grandnephew of the donor of Hipango Park to the city of Wanganui. Pall-bearers at the funeral were Messrs L J. Brooker (Native Department), N. Lawrence, G. H. Hipango, L. Ngatai, J. Clendon and J. Kereopa.
