Collier Delayed At Westport

(P.A.) Westport, June 8. The Union Steam Ship Coy.’s collier Kartigi, which completed loading here on Saturday afternoon and was to have sailed at 2 a.m. Sunday for Auckland, is being held in port by the demand of the crew for replacement lor an injured crew attendant. Although the agreement between the ship owners and seamen’s unions provides that tie crew orderlies shall not be replaced at other than the ports of Auckland , Wellington. Lyttelton, or Dunedin, it is understood that the requests from the union executive to take the Kartigi to sea have so far not met with any response from the crew.

i ’ Two men who offered their services las mess orderlies were not acceptable Ito the crew. In view of the shortage of coal at Auckland, the delay in the -ailing of the Kartigi is most unfortunate, particularly as the vessel also recently suffered a delay at Auckland on account of crew disputes. The man concerned, Sydney Cheek, aged 19, was admitted to the Buller Hospital on Saturday afternoon suffering from severe concussion x£ue to a fall from the wharf on to the ship’s deck. His condition this afternoon was reported as satisfactory
