Allegation That Mr. Nash Has Taxed On Too High A Basis
The opinion that the Minister of Finance (Mr. Nash) was holding up the collection of income tax because he wished to cut down his surplus was expressed by Mr. VV. Sullivan, Opposition member for Bay of Plenty, when speaking at Ohakune last night. Mr. Sullivan added that it was clear proof that Mr. Ntuh had over-budgeted and was taxing on a higher level than necessary.
In the Waikato district few people had received their final demand for income tax, and he understood that the ' position was similar in some other parts of New Zealand, said Mr. Sullivan. He estimated that the amount involved was several millions and might even amount to as much as £6,000,000.
