Individual Status Given Wanganui Rugby Referees

Individual status of five senior referees, deemed by the area appointment board as being capable of controlling interprovinciai A representative and international fixtures, was notified to the Wanganui Rugby Union management committee at its meeting last night. The names, in order of merit, are: Messrs. W. B. Broadhead (Wanganui), N. Nielsen (Wanganui), R. Penn (Rangitikei), C. H. Transom (Taihape), and J. Ross (Wanganui). Endorsed by the Wanganui RugbyUnion, the five names (the maximum allowed) will be forwarded to the New Zealand Rugby Union to be placed on the list of referees eligible to control international matches. Taranaki Maoris, at Hawera, for the Tuera Shield. July 10: Wanganui B reps. v. Manawatu B, at Palmerston North. July 10: Wanganui third grade reps, v. Manawatu thirds, as curtain-raiser to senior rep, match at WanganuiJuly 31: Wanganui Colts team v. Wainui-a-rua colts, up-river. Tawa Rugby Club (Wellington), wrote asking for a match between their juniors and a Wanganui club junior side, preferably towards the end of the season—the first Saturday in September. The letter was received. An application from the Taihape Sub-union for Taihape as the venue of the Wanganui-King Country senior rep. match on July 31, was declined oil the grounds of Wanganui’s heavy financial commitments this season. Taihape are to be advised to that effect. Challenges entered by the Technical Old Boys’ and Marist Clubs for both Maorfiand and Wilson Cups were referred to the fixtures committee. It was resolved to seek permission from the N.Z.R.U. to make the same admission charges as Taranaki for the All Black trial match- Up till September 8 charges at these trials were to be the same as for inter-provincial fixtures, advised the N.Z.R U. The charge for the latter is Is 6d. and Wanganui is to apply for a 6d increase at the trial game. The application of Technical Old Boys’ Club for the reclassifying of H. M. Shewan from senior to junior grade was referred to the fixtures committee. The Junior Labour League (Wanganui) was granted the use of Williams Park for a match on June 13.
