Manawatu Acceptances For Next Saturday

For the opening day of the Manawatu Racing Club's winter meeting on Saturday at Awapuni the acceptors for the Maiden Stakes total 50, and the club has decided to run the event in three divisions. The stake will be increased to £450, with £llO to the winner of each division. Provision has also been made for divisions in the June Hack Handicap, but the field is only one over the safety number and divisions may not be necessary. Brackets will be numerous in the Maiden Stakes. Other brackets are Hormuz and Sari, and Precedency and Gildchase in the Manawatu Winter Cup, and Zealander and Oban in the Stewards’ Handicap. July 24— Manawatu Hunt Club second place, passing the tiring Abbey Lu and Sir Waimai in the final furlong, and Good Armour just failed to overhaul Abbey Lu for third. It was a memorable contest, marked by the great final effort of Town Survey, who was going faster than anything e’se at the end. Good Armour made a couple of indifferent ] jumps early, and this probably accounted for his lack of dash. Dualin, Haereatu, Surpeen and Abaris were the only others to finish.
