I Recd. 6.30 p.m. London, June 7 England’s team for the first ' cricket test against Australia at Noti tingham beginning on Thursday will i be chosen from the following twelve: ! N. W. D. Yardley (captain). W. J. i Edrich, E. J. Barnett, J. Hardstaff. L. I Hutton, C. Washbrook, D. Compton, D. V. P. Wright, T. G. Evans. A. V. Bedser, J. Young and F. Laker. Twelfth man is R. Simpson. Reuter’s cricket correspondent says that Laker is the only surprise in the team. I The selectors, before deciding who • shall be left out, will consider the weather on the morning of the match. Laker will be given a place if the pitch looks favourable to spin bowlers, as only pinners have so far met with any success against the Australians. ; The correspondent adds that if the I English players shed the inferiority I complex which has strickn most of i the country teams, there should be a ! close fight and a possible victory for England. | Wright developed lumoago during i the test trial last week and is receiv- } ing attention from a specialist- The selection committee will have a reI port on his condition tomorrow. The selection committee has co-opted Yardley as a member.
