FROZEN VEGETABLES ARE POPULAR

(N.Z.P. A.—Copyright.) Recd. 8.55 p.m. Sydney, June 7. With fresh vegetables still dear, housewives are buying quick frozen varieties. Prices for fresh peas in pods range from Is 6d to 2s a lb., but tests have revealed that housewives obtain only about six ounces of peas aftei - shelling. Quick frozen peas are sold ready shelled for Is half lb., and are ready for the pot without wastage. The low price of frozen foods is due to the fact that companies buy only in glut periods and keep the vegetables in a deep freezing chamber until required. Other quick frozen lines are cauliflower, brocolli and stringless beans. Australian troops in Japan eat 100 tons of frozen vegetables a month shipped from Sydney. Supplies for household purposes are still very short, but the position is expected to improve.
