MAN KNOCKED DOWN BY ONE CAR, DRAGGED ALONG BY ANOTHER

(P.A.) Wellington, June 7. Knocked down by a car in Kent Terrace tonight, an elderly man was dragged sweral hundred yards beneath a second vehicle before being discovered. He is Mr. T. B. Hay, nightwatchman, of 39 Pirie Street. When admitted to the Wellington Public Hospital he was suffer-» ing from severe lacerations to the top of the head, concussion, and shock, and also lacerations to the left knee. His condition is reported as serious. When the driver of the car which struck Hay had stopped after the accident, only a shoe remained on the road at that point. Hay had been caught up in the front spring shackles of a taxi following close behind and was dragged underneath as it continued into Vivian Street, and later into Taranaki Street. The taxi driver twice stopped to investigate an apparent handicap, and in Upper Taranaki Street found Hay caught under the chassis.
