The idea of many years ago, the “charm’’ bracelet has been revived and a visitor to Wanganui, Miss Ruth French, of London, possesses one of these interesting accessories. She has already collected something like a dozen charms and trinkets for her bracelet (only a few months old) which is of heavy silver chain, with most of the ‘charms’’ also of silver. Among the coins are her first New Zealand threepence and an American cent, obtained at Curacao. A silver “gremlin" familiar to aviators and a tiny washing machine are interesting pieces, while a tiki, a greenstone Maori mere, and a trinket of paua shell are very recent acquisitions. Collapsible Umbrellas.

An innovation in umbrellas and one that will be welcomed by New Zealand women, is the collapsible umbrella which will fit into handbags. A few have already reached this country. They have been sent as gifts from friends overseas, or brought back from travel abroad. These umbrellas, which are popular in America and Italy, are not yet on sale in the Dominion. The secret of the umbrellas is that they fold in two. The ribs double back so that the umbrella is then less than a foot long. When not in use it is folded up, a separate matching cover is put on so that it won't soak everything in the handbag and the umbrella is stowed away again.
