WANGANUI WOMEN’S HOCKEY COMMENTARY
The following is comment on play and players in the Wanganui Women’s Hockey Association matches last Saturday. T.O.G. (1) 3 v. Ratana 1 With play moving regularly to either end of the field the game proved to be a test of the teams fitness. Passing was choppy no doubt due to the uneven surface of the ground. It was interesting to note that in the second half both teams played three full-backs and no goalie and the co-operation of halves with the backs was commendable. Goals scored were by E. Cromaty in the first half for T.O.G. and a third by a pusn shot into a clear goal mouth by the left wing in the second half. M. Stevens, Ratana, netted their only goal, she proving hersell an able player throughout. COLLEGIANS 6 v. KIWIS 0. I The score is not a true indication of tiie game for play was fairly evenly distributed. Collegians forward combination was disrupted when D. Pickford had to leave the field because of injury. Kiwis forwards were a force to be contended .'. ith by the Collegian full-backs. Generally speakin o combination has improved considerably in both teams and a fair amount of clean hitting was in evidence which opened up (he match. COLLEGE A 3 v. TECHNICAL COLLEGE A 0 This was a clean, open game, the positional play of College A forwards being a feature of the game, ably supported by halves. The game was halted frequently in the first half tor obstructions. College A scorers were Y. Ellis, A. Moreby, J. Knight. This was one of the best games of the season. STEWARTS 4, COLLEGE B 2. The advantage of more hockey experience was again displayed in this game and it must be noted that Stewart themselves is an improving team. Scorers lor Stewart were S. Smith (2), K. Aitchlson (1), S. Windle (1). T. Pitkethley and M. Jordon scored one each for Collegians. T.O.G. 2, Y.W.C.A. 6; Technical College 24, College C 1.
