Savage Club Forms Sketch Club
Last night a meeting of members of the Wanganui Savage Club, presided over by Savage j. Shanks, a member of the programme committee, decided that a sketch club be formed within the club.
Explaining the objects the committee had in mind, Mr. Shanks said that there was an intention to encourage the production of good, fively sketches, to encourage rehearsals, the deve opment of ideas. It was felt that. If a sketch club was formed it could meet regularly and develop the talent in the club to such an extent that sketches for each korero could be arranged for the whole of a season, or at least a goodly portion of it, well in advance.
Savage J. Windleburn, also of the programme committee, said the development of stage technique, the creation of ideas and development of a club library of short sketches, ranging from thumbnail sketches to one-act p’ays, would be encouraged by such a club.
Savages T. Soundy, C. A. Robertson, R. A. Westwood and J. 11. Goss spoke in similar strain. Mr. Shanks was elected chairman and Mr. Goss honorary secretary of the club, and it. was decided to call its first full meeting on the Thursday after next korero.
