Utiku. —The May meeting of the Utiku W.I. was held on Tuesday last when there was a good attendance of members. In the absence of the president through illness Mrs. G. M. Transom conducted the meeting. One visitor, Mrs. J. Anderson, was welcomed and greetings from the Stratford W.I. were brought by her and reciprocated by those present Messages of sympathy were sent to members who were ill and members stood in silence as a mark of respect for a former member who had sufiiered a bereavement. After business and correspondence had been dealt with a most interesting roll call —a “Handy Hint” was taken to which the response was enthusiastic and helpful. An article on the discovery of chloroform was read by a member and a “Quiz” presented by Mrs. Transom provided much entertainment. A humorous recitation by Mrs. Miller was greatly appreciated. Afternoon, tea was served and the singing of the National Anthem brought a very pleasant meeting to a close. Competition results were as follows: Gingernuts, Mrs. E. E. Transom; oven duster, Mrs. G. M. Transom; premier flower, Mrs. E. C. Transom. Competitions for the June meeting will bp for bran biscuits and a child’s apron made from a flower bag.
