LAKES SCENIC BOARD MEETING (O C.) Ohakune, May 26. A meeting of the Ohakune Lakes Scenic Board was held in the Ohakune Borough Council Chambers on Monday afternoon. Mr. F. H. L. Delamar was elected as acting-chairman in the absence of the chairman, the Commissioner of Crown Lands. The following members of the board were present: Messrs L. Nation, T, Beasely, Morton and W. L. Brown. An apology was received from Mr. W. L. Jones. Mr. T. McWilliams, inspector to the board, was in attendance. Two letters were received from sawmillers in the district, offering a price for certain trees in one of the reserves. Mr. Delamar remarked that the recent heavy wind had blown over aporoximately 20 trees and damaged several others and as they were a definite menace it was essential that they be cut down. However, to protact the members of the board, it was considered advisable that Mr. Carter, the senior ranger of the State Forestry Service, should be asked to inspect the trees. The inspector raised the matter of planting more trees in the reserve, and it was suggested that flowering gum trees and tree lucerne would assist in keeping the growth of bracken down. It was decided to write to Mr Cox, the Wanganui City superintendent of reserves, and ask for his advice on the matter. The secretary presented the annual statement of accounts and this was adopted. The funds of the board, as shown in the balance-sheet, were In a very healthy position.
