Mr. E. W. Merewether’s Work For R.S.A. Praised

Tribute to the work of Mr. E. W. Merewether as patron was paid by the president (Mr H. R. Gilberd) at last night’s annual meeting of the Wanganui Returned Services’ Association.

“No one realises just how much Mr. Merewether has done for the R S.A. His whole heart and soul are hi our work,” said Mr. Gilberd.

“I look upon the R.S.A as the most important and vital part of the makeup of this countrmy,” said Mr. Morewether. "We are practically the biggest organisation in New Zealand and Wanganui can play a very important part.” He had gained more real pleasure from the R.S.A. than he had been instrumental in giving. With more than 2000 members, the association should have little trouble in making all its clubs a success.

“We are a big means of keeping Nfew Zealand on an even keel,” said Mr. Merewether. “We are a nonpolitical hody, but we are not going to see things wrecked ”

“I consider it one of the greatest honours that can bo bestowed on a man to ask him to bo president of a body of men who are all ex-sailors, soldiers and airmen,” ; aid Mr. H. R. Gilberd in returning thanks for his election as president. “I can assure you that while 1 am president 1 will do ail that I can for the association and every member.”
