Drastic Curtailment Of Milk Supples In Wellington City

(P.A.) Wellington, May 25. Because of the autumn drought, a resulting shortage of stock food, combined with the recent wintry weather, with severe floods in its milk producing areas, the Wellington City Council has announced a drastic reduction immediately in the supply of milk to consumers.

To avoid drastic rationing, the public is asked to reduce the demand to the barest. No milk will be available to shops or offices for workers’ cups of tea, the school milk service has ceased and milk will not be supplied for the manufacture of ice cream. Half supplies only will be available to tearooms, restaurants and milk bars.

If a voluntary public response is insufficient, the alternative would be the introduction if milkless days, which would be applied to a rotation of the areas concerned.
