RANGERS HAVE CLOSE CALL HINEMOA DEFEATS FEDERAL. Rain did not in any way deter the keenness of Wanganui hockey clubs all of whom lieided full teams last ' Saturday in the second last game of the first round for the Spicer Cup. Results: Wanganui Rangers 3, Castleciiff 2: Hinemoa 7, Federal 2; Tech. Old Boys 5, Ratana 1; Technical College had the bye. This brings the competition points to: — Technical College 9, Wanganui Rangers 8, Tech. Old Boys 6, Hinemoa 6, Castlecliff 4, Federal 3 and Ratana 0. RANGERS NARROWLY DEFEAT CASTLECLIFF. Wanganui Rangers last Saturday met and defeated Castlecliff by the | narrow margin of 3 goals to 2. Rangers started off well but in the second spell the Castlecliff team electrified their supporters by a burst of good i play which nearly brought them victory. Scorers were: L. Cave 2, and N. Mclntyre 1 (Rangers); R. Anthony ; and I?. Tunbridge 1 (Castlecliff). Mr A. Le Brun was the umpire. HINEMOA PLAYS WELL. ’ Hinemoa seemed to have overcome, i their earlier lack of form when on Saturday they overwhelmed Federal by 7-2. Actually, the difference between the two teams was not as great as that, for it was the splendid goal-scoring of W. Spicer that gave the Hinemoa such a lead. Spicer had no trouble in hitting goals from any part of the circle. B. Hughes made - some good runs on the left wing.' Scorers: W. Spicer 4, M. Springer 1, i L. Duggan 1 and W. Woon 1 (Hinemoa) and A. Borich 1 and G. Karaiti-' ana 1 (Federal). The ganie ended: Hinemoa 7 Federal 2 Messrs. D. F. Glenny and C. C. Grant were the umpires. TECH. OLD BOYS DEFEAT RATANA. Tech. Old Boys had no trouble last j Saturday in defeating Ratana, the score being 5-1. The Old Boys team have had a great deal more experience than Ratana who, except for occasional break aways, were unable to crack their- opponents’ defence. Scorers were: M. Goldsbury 2, E. Myers 2, and A. Affleck 1 (Tech. Old Boys) and G. Teko (Ratana). Result: Tech. Old Boys 5 Ratana ............................ j Messrs. S. Hughes and w' Spicer ,were the umpires.
