Prosecutions Brought By Transport Dept.
“Defendant’s excuse was that he was in a hurry to get to Mangaweka ! to load sheep,’’ said Inspector W. Wilson, prosecuting in the Magistrate’s ' Court, Wanganui, yesterday, on behalf of the Transport Department. Defendant was Eric Oulsman, charged with operating a heavy motor vehicle et a speed exceeding 30 miles an hour. Inspector Wilson said that he checked defendant’s speed on the main highway near Wangaehu at 40 rni.’es an hour. The truck had five tons of fertiliser, the total weight of ‘he truck load tyung eight tons. Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., imposed a fine of £l, costs 10s. The Beacon Bacon Co. (N.Z.) Ltd., charged with operating a motor lorry without a warrant of fitness, was fined 10s, costs 10s. Mr. H. M. Keesing, who appeared for the company, aid the sticker had been rubbed off the windscreen of the truck, with the result that the renewal of the warrant of fitness had been overlooked. John Edward Byres, who pleaded not guilty to driving a motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 30 miles an hour in a restricted area at Kai Iwi, was fined £l, costs 10s.
