Many Small Slips Blocked Country Roads At Week-end

The Wanganui River Road was still blocked yesterday by a number of slips, the majority oi the slips being between Parikino and Pipiriki. It is not known when the road will be open again for traffic. but gangs of Public Works Department employees are engaged en the work.

The road from Wanganui to Mangamahu was blocked at Kauangaroa during the week-end and was cleared this morning by a bulldozer belonging to the Wanganui County Council.

The Wanganui-Raetihi highway was epen again yesterday but was reported to be in a greasy state reel uiring care on the part oi motorists. Slips are reported from marry back-country roads, many of which will not be cleared for several days. In other localities settlers are doing the work themselves. County roads did not fare as badly as was feared. The damage done by floods in two severe storms las l year —one in February and the other during the winter months—thiew a ■ considerable burden on local bodies and it is hoped that damage will be less severe this winter.
