PASSING OF MR. GEORGE BLACK AFTER LONG ILLNESS

After a long illness borne with great fortitude, the death occurred last week at a hospital in Palmerston North, of Mr. George Black, of Marton, at the comparatively early age of 50years. The deceased never enjoyed the best of health following his war service. Born in Marton in 1898, the late Mr Bla'ck was educated at the South MakirikiriSchool. He served overseas with the Ist. N.Z.E.F., but his war service seriously undermined his health and contributed largely to his eariy demise. Mr. Black was of a quiet disposition and was highly respected by the whole community. Very obliging he was also willing to give assistance where required. He was a member of Court Little John A.O.F. and was one of the organisers in the foundation of the Marton Scottish Society holding executive office, for several years. The beautiful floral tributes and the large gathering of friends and fellow citizens at the funeral service testified to the high esteem in which the late gentleman was held in the community. Rev. James Robertson, Presbyterian Minister at Marton, officiated at the residence and the graveside. Members of the Foresters who acted as pall-bearers from the residence to the hearse, were Messrs. F. Duncan, D. Kinloch, G. Lewis, L. A. Wing, R. Wing and C. W. Stafford. The casket to the graveside was borne by Messrs. W. Summerton, R. T. C. Scott, H. J. McChesney, C. W. Stafford, K. N. Glasgow and G. Thomson, members of the Marton R.S.A. of which deceased was a member. The late Mr. Black is survived by his wife. Messrs.
