Large Waikato Fields And Prospects

(Special) Auckland, May 7. Big fields will compete on the I opening day at Te Rapa tomorrow, i and with »the prospect of heavier ground the winners may be responsible for some , surprising prices. After his Waverley Steeplechase success, and following upon good showings in hurdle races at Ellerslie at Easter, Red Glare promises to be hard to beat in the Frankton Steeplechase. Town Survey beat him in the hurdles at headquarters ana it may be an interesting t.yssle between this pair. Hippodrome will doubtless be favourite for the Waikato Hurdles after his success last week though the opposition is stronger here he may rise to it. Corineus should improve ah the time with racing and Hunting Mac goes well fresh. In their present form Sylis and Conspiracy, both recent winners, may be hard to beat in the Hamilton Handicap, with a prospect of heavier going than was experienced at Pukekohe. This pair will meet with opposition from Valley Boy, who is very well now, Swanee, Huntore and the promoted hack Kaitawa. The class in the Maeroa Handicap is not particularly strong. Hunting Camp has had several schooling lessons of late and he may be more solla. Gan.jah impressed last week with a brilliant finishing burst. Apart from these two horses, the best may be Beaute and Franada. Provision has been made for divisions in four events, and in the Maeroa Handicap four horses were balloted out. The following should go well in their engagements: — Matangi Hack Hurdles. —First Division: Court Lad, The Fake. Second Division: Prince, Jay Wind. Gordonton Hack.—First Division: Dominie, Wonder Boy. Second Division: Royal Beau, Driving Creek. Te Rapa Plate First Division: Cairnwhin, Tifox. Second Division: Town Echo, Trenchant. Waikato Hurdles. —Hippodrome, Cornieus, Hunting Mac. Hamilton Handicap.—Valley Boy, Conspiracy, Sylis. Frankton Steeplechase.—Town Survey, Red Glare, Master Play. Maeroa Handicap.—Ganjah, Hunting Camp, Franada. Wiiatawhata Hack. —First Division: Broiefort Prince, Peter Nelson. Second Division: Beb, Prince Chat. The acceptances are:— 11.0—
