Certain Weeds Being Kept Under Control In Rangitikei County

(S.R.) Marton, May 6. Inspections had been completed of properties throughout the county where notices had been served on occupiers during the past season requesting them to clear blackberry, tutsan, foxglove and sweet brier, stated the Rangitikei County Council’s noxious weeds inspector, Mr. J. Robinson. in a report adopted at the monthly meeting in Marton today. “These weeds appear to be well under control with the exception of blackberry, and in future there should be no difficulty in keeping them down to a mimimum.” the report added. Many properties in the Rangitira and Rangitoto districts were still bauly infested with blackberry, and as sodium clorate was not available for spraying, he was advising property owners to clear blackberry to grouno level during the autumn months, the inspector stated. Inspector Robinson added that he was pleased to state that on only two properties in the county did he fina ragwort in any quantity. One area was the State forest reserve at Pukeroa and the other was the Timahanga Native Land block, which was cleared by special grant.
