TURAKINA NOTES

(0.C.) Turakina, May 1 The meeting of the Turakina Women's Institute was held in St. Andrew’s Hall on April 15, Mrs. C. Perry presiding over an excellent attendance. A letter from the Booking Institue, England, thanking the institute for food parcels, was read. A discussion took place about resolutions to be taken at the annual conference. Mrs. Stilborn gave a demonstration on the making of mocassins, and of pine needle work. Competitions weie as follows:—Best bloom, Mrs. C. Perry 1, Mrs. Keohane 2, Mrs. Major 3. Butterless sponge cake: Mrs. Flyger 1, Mrs. Perry 2. Hand-knitted jeep coat, Mrs. H. J. Glasgow 1, Mrs. Keohane 2, Mrs. Sinclair and Miss Goodall (equal) 3.

TURAKINA BRANCH W.D.F.F. The annual meeting of the Turakina branch of the W.D.F.F. was held on April 22. There was a fail- attendance of members. Meetings ere to be held on the fourth Thursday cf each month, at which the usual bring-and-buy stall will b<_ held. Donations were given to "Scotlands” and towards a new vacuum cleaner for “Kaiangamai.” Mrs. Major won the points prize for the competition, "The best bloom in the garden." This competition is to be continued again this year Mrs. B. G. Grice was appointed convener of the new social committee formed. Members are again asked to make a scrap-book to be ready for the September meeting. Mrs. Johnstone presented sprays to the president and secretary. The election of officers resulted, as follows: President, Mrs. J. A. Harris (re-elected), hon. vice-presidents, Mesdames W. Glasgow and M. S. Grice; vice-presidents. Mesdames Johnstone, Major and A. Perry; secretary, Miss B. Baldwin.
