Kentucky Derby Won By Citation
(N.Z.P.A.—Copyright.) New York, May 1. Citation won the Kentucky Derby today with his stablemate, Coaltown, second and My Request, third. Citation’s rider, Eddie Arcaro, became the first jockey to win four Kentucky Derbys—traditionally the most colourful and fashionable race of the American turf season. There were six starters. Citation, with 83,400 dollars for today’s win, has now earned 331,830 dollars in his 17 starts, 15 of which he has won. Citation's dam. Hydroplane, was bought in England during the war and shipped .to,.the United States via Australia to avoid the hazardous trans-Atlantic crossing.
