The warm rain which fell throughout the Marton district yesterday, was welcomed by both the farming community and town residents. Humid weather has been experienced in the district over the past week, and although temperatures were still high yesterday, the atmosphere was cooler than the preceding days. Lawns and pastures are now showing signs of the prolonged dry spell, but even so they do not present the same parched appearance as the grasslands of the Walrarapa. Vegetable and flower gardens have also felt the affects of the dry, hot weather, and yesterday's rain will do much to stimulate growth. To bring lawns and pastures back to their usual state of greenness, and to provide ample stock food for the winter, further rain is needed. A few hours of steady rain will also see the arrival of Rangitikel's main mushroom crop. Already some people have sampled mushrooms following rain about a fortnight ago.
