CANADIAN BOWLERS VISIT “BUSHY PARK” HOMESTEAD
As guests of Mr. G. F. Moore at his beautiful homestead, “Bushy Park,” Kai Iwi, yesterday morning, the visiting British Columbian bowlers expressed their heartfelt appreciation of the beauty of Wanganui bush scenery, the potentialities of New Zealand farming, and, not least of all, the hospitality shown to them by New Zealand. “It is a great little country, with very nice people,’’ one of the visitors exclaimed. The homestead at "Bushy Park” was of special interest to Dr. B. F. Keillor and Dr. F. A. Keillor, who have "ranches” of their own in British Columbia. Mr. Moore showed the visitors his pedigree cattle, whitefaced Hereford bulls, cows and heifers with which he has won many prizes. Mr. G. N. Boulton, vice-president of the Wanganui Bowling Centre, pointed out spots of interest, such as the Kai Iwi cheese factory, the water supply lines, and the Maori village, which attracted considerable attention. After a cup of tea, which included rich Jersey milk,- the visitors looked over the house, sang in good Canadian voices, and ended up with the Maori version of "For he’s a jolly good fellow,” their pronunciation being good, if a little vague In parts. In reply, Mr. Moore said that it was a very great pleasure to entertain the visitors, and hoped that they would have a pleasant time touring the rest of the North Island. Stopping at Kai Iwi beach on the way back to the city, the Canadians were interested in the black sand, which is not found in Vancouver, or anywhere in the province of British Columbia. At home, they said, such a beach would have white sand, almost covered by logs and tall driftwood whihe had come down the rivers from the Douglas fir and Sitka spruce forests of the coastal range, or broken loose from log-rafts in transit to the paper mills and pulp factories of Vancouver. Hundreds of tons of wood were thrown up on the beaches by the tide. The party returned to their hotel in time for lunch. They played bowls yesterday afternoon, and will leave for Napier today.
