SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mrs. Scrivens and family, who have been visiting Wanganui have returned to Wellington, via Palmerston North. Mrs. L. Freeman, of Sydney, is the guest of Mrs. G. Hardy, Swiss Avenue, Gonville. Mrs. H. A. Darvill has arrived from Hamilton to take up her position as acting-matron of the Gonville Sanatorium. Miss Frances Hendry, Nelson Street, leaves at the week-end to take up a position as domestic science mistress at Horowhenua school. ENGAGEMENT Vile—Poppe.— Mr. and Mrs. A. C. J. Poppe, “Burwood,” Fern Flats, Marton, wish to announce the engagement of their only daughter, Shirley Helen, to Albert Lindsay, only son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Vile, “Dunalien,” Upper Tutaenui, Marton. Farewell Parties For Miss Fay Reid Miss Fay Reid, who is leaving next week for Sydney to further her studies in singing, has been entertained at several farewell parties and presented with a number of gifts. She was the recipient of a camera and case "from the staff of the Wan-ganui-Rangitikei Electric Power Board, of which she had been a member for five years. The gift was presented by the secretary, Mr. G. A. Ammundson), who expressed the good wishes ot the staff. On Suhday at Wesley Church, Gonville, Miss Reid was presented with a leather writing case from the people of the church, accompanied by many good wishes for the future. Yesterday an afternoon tea party, arranged by Mrs. T. R. Ellis and Mrs. T. L. Sperring, was held at the D.I.C. Lovely sprays were handed to the guest of honour, and to her mother, Mrs. F. Reid, and grandmother, Mrs. L. J. Webb Jones. Miss Reid also received a little tribute in the form of a scroll, hand-painted and in appropriate rhyme. Others present were Mesdames W. Gilbert, Lewis Bassett, F. Carpenter, G. Hardy, L. Freeman (Sydney), A. R. Spurdie, R. Bond, H. D. F. James and Miss Margaret Brice. Miss Reid, who leaves next Wednesday for Auckland, from where she will journey by air on Friday for Sydney, will reside with her aunt, Mrs. Yvonne Marotta. Mrs. Reid will accompany her daughter to Auckland.
