Short-Wave Radio To Be Used At Rowing Regatta

The transmitting by short wave of progress reports on each event to a central receiving station at the Aramoho boathouse will be a feature of the Wanganui Rowing Association’s annual regatta on the Wanganui River on Saturday. The broadcast reports will be made by members of the Wanganui branch of the New Zealand Radio Transmitters’ Association. The reports will be received at the main receiving station and passed on to the announcer of the public address system. By this means it is hoped that the public will have a full knowledge of each race. Members will be stationed at several points on the course and will send to their main station the positions of the crews as they pass, and any other interesting information. This system has already been successfully carried out in Wanganui with motor-cycle hill climbs. At the New Zealand championship hill climb at the Labour Day week-end, members of the association transmitted progress reports as the riders made their way up the winding road. Officials at the top were kept posted with the progress of the riders and more interest was added to the events.
