MR. A. C. BARNES APPOINTED HEADMASTER. Mr. Arthur C. Barnes has been appointed headmaster of the Queen’s Park School. He commenced his career as a probationary teacher at this same school in 1919 and remained there for two years. After two years at Wellington Training College he was returned to Queen’s Park as assistant teacher, where he remained for three and a-half years. He was then appointed to the Kiwitea School. Then followed three and a-half years at Victoria Avenue Normal School. He was retained at this school when it was reorganised as an intermediate school. He remained there for nearly 14 years as the art specialist and for the final four xears as first assistant. In September, 1946, he was appointed headmaster to Apiti District High School, which position he held until his latest appointment. The return of Mr. Barnes to Wanganui will be a source of considerable satisfaction to musical and art circles. He played the flute and oboe in the Orchestral Society’s combination and is a consistent exhibitor of watercolour landscapes at the* Wanganui Arts and Craft Society’s exhibitions.
