SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. W. J. Gillies and Miss E. Gillies, Wanganui, are visiting Napier. Mrs. N. Neilson and family have retained to their home, “Mount Lion,” Okoia, after spending tne holiday vacation at Castlecliff. Miss W. Dunkley has returned to Wanganui from New . Plymouth, where she was the guest of her aunt, Mrs. Urwin. Miss Janet Russell returned to Wanganui on Saturday from Wellington where she completed her Karitane training. Mrs. J. M. Haldane and Mrs. A. M. Hyde, of College Street, accompanied by Miss L. Linklater and Mrs. R. Moore, who have been touring the southern lakes, have returned to Wanganui. Paying a brief visit to see a daughter, who has married a New Zealand farmer and is living in the Sctith Island. Sir Harry and Lady Rachel Verney, arrived at Wellington from London last week as passengers on the Athenic. Lady Rachel Verney is a daughter of the Sth Earl of Elgin and Kincardine, KG. Mrs. Joan Braun, formerly Miss Joan Murphy, one of the noted Murphy twins who won many New Zealand women’s ski championships, has arrived in the Pan-American Clipper Ocean Rover from America. Mrs, Braun has been living in Pasadena, California, since her marriage and has come to spend four and ahalf months in New Zealand. With her two small sons she arrived at her parents home at Riverlea, Taranaki, at the week-end. On February 6 Mr. and Mrs. David Smith Prince, of Palmerston North, will celebrate their diamond wedding. They were married at the Anglican Church, Wanganui. Mr. Prince was born at Marton in 1863 and Mrs. Prince in Gloucestershire in 1564. They resided in the Feilding district for many years and have lived at Palmerston North for over 30 years. They have three sons, three daughters, seven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Had women in countries occupied during the war been more alive to their responsibilities they would not have had to suffer so much, said Miss Marion Royce, secretary for social questions on the staff of the World’s Y.W.C.A. at Geneva, who has arrived in the Dominion as an emissary for the world organisation to the Y.W.C.A. in New Zealand.
