PLAIN WOOLS MEET WITH SUSTAINED ENQUIRY AT NAPIER

(P.A.) Napier, Jan. 26. A sustained inquiry in a day of solid selling brought plain wools to the forefront at the* first day of the January wool sale which concluded on a strong note. Almost all of the 19,000 bales on offer changed hands. The attention of buyers to a large extent appeared to be focussed on acquiring cheaper wool but the effect was to create competition for inferior to coarse types. In consequence these became at times the dearest parcels to buy and rates showed an appreciable . advance on December quotations. Super crossbreds also came in for some keen bidding, lines in 50/56 range being in demand. The Continent and Bradford shared control of the market. The official report stated that the market remained firm throughout. Competition was well spread and there was practicaly a complete clearance of all the catalogue.
